Elevate Your Artist Website for 2025: Design Tips and Trends
As an artist, your website is more than just a portfolio—it's an extension of your artistic voice. It's a platform where your work can shine, connect with your audience, and tell your story. Having worked with artists to design their online presence for over a decade, trust me I’ve seen a lot of ‘trends’ wash through the artist website world (my favourite world!)
I always strive to build something that perfectly complements the artwork on display of course, but along the way it’s fun to employ some current website design trends. Today, I’m sharing some expert tips for customizing your website to be ready for 2025, along with examples of key elements that will ensure your artist website is a place you can be extremely proud of!
Fine Black Lines for a Sleek, Modern Look
One design element that I’ve been enjoying lately is the use of subtle, fine black lines to frame sections and content. These lines act like the edges of a canvas, helping to create a structure that is both clean and sophisticated.
Take a deep breath, with off-white
A pure white background can sometimes feel too clinical, especially for artists whose work thrives on texture and warmth. After literally a decade of being committed to the ‘bright white site’, I’ve recently found so much comfort in softening the site backgrounds I’m creating. Whatever background colour you choose should complement your artwork and allow it to shine. It’s time to lean in to this approachable and inviting aesthetic.
Would YOU want to join that list?
We’re deep into a digital age where email lists are crucial for keeping your followers updated. A thoughtfully designed, enticing newsletter sign-up box is an essential feature of any artist website in 2025. Take a look at your current website signup box and ask yourself “would YOU want to sign up for that?” And if you don’t have an email sign-up box yet…what are you waiting for?!
Invest in Photography
It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: high-quality photos of your artwork are non-negotiable. No amount of good design can make up for poorly lit or low-resolution images. Invest in professional photography, or at the very least, learn to take well-lit, crisp images that truly capture the texture, colour, and feel of your work.
Share Your Story
In 2025, art lovers want more than just to see your work; they want to know the story behind it. Your website design layout can have a dramatic effect on the mood you are creating. Charisma Panchapakesan’s site is a great example: Her layout here invites the viewer to click around, engaging in her different collections. The ‘cabinet of curiosities’ feel is perfect for her brand. Also note the inviting feel of the off-white background ;)
