Exhibition Labels Made Simple

Let me guess—you’ve spent weeks (or months) creating your artwork and preparing for a show… and then the labels are the last thing you think about.

And yet, they’re one of the only pieces of information your viewer actually takes home.

I’ve worked in galleries and art fairs for over 20 years, and I can tell you this: a clear, professional label is easier than you think.

So instead of overthinking it (or rushing it the night before!), here is the exact label format I’ve used for years in galleries and art fairs.

Straightforward and simple

What to include on your label:

  • Artist name

  • Title

  • Medium

  • Size

  • Price

  • Website + Instagram (this is key—people will photograph your label)

  • Artworks with editions (ie prints or photography) should also include the edition number and size on the label. (ed. 1 of 10)

This label is sized 2 x 4 inches and uses Avery template 8923. Download your template here.

How about a QR code?

Sure! Adding a QR code to your label means that potential buyers can go directly to your site to purchase the artwork.

No website to direct to? I can help with that too→
