Build out your year of sales: Winter Edition
What do we do in the winter months?
Welcome to the winter edition of my 4-part guide to building out your year of sales. In this article, you’ll learn how to structure each month to take advantage of crucial buying times.
Winter is traditionally a little less busy in terms of sales, but we can definitely take advantage of these months, read on!
january
Plan: Since January can be a slow retail month, we can use this time productively. Use the regenerative energy of the New Year to get your studio organized. Book a consultation call to talk about plans for the year, and look ahead to in-person showing opportunities in the spring.
Marketing: The first week of January is a good time for a digital detox, if you like to work some off-time into your schedule.
Sales opportunities: Temper your expectations, and plan to market to your audience only in the second half of January.
Avoid: Don’t plan to have an artwork release or in person event for the first 2 weeks of January.
february
Plan: Spend extra time making sure your website is up to date (or build a new website!), and your social media channels are tidy and focused. Plan for a ‘spring-clean’ of your instagram feed, removing any outliers or posts that are no longer relevant.
Marketing: Valentines day is the marketing focus of February of course!
Sales opportunities: Gift cards can be helpful for buyers.
Avoid: Having high expectations. Don’t put too much pressure on sales for this short month.
march
Plan: Along with working on sales leading up the busy spring season, you’ll need to ensure you have plenty of time in the studio to keep creating artwork to satisfy your clients.
Marketing: Add any new work to your website. If you use e-commerce, ensure your pricing is accurate across all sales channels.
Sales opportunities: We’re gearing up to spring which is my favourite sales season!
Avoid: Mid-March can be busy with families taking March break vacations. I’ve often avoided the 2 middle weeks if my main audience is families with children.
