Build out your year of sales: Spring Edition

Finally!

Welcome to the spring edition of my 4-part guide to building out your year of sales. In this article, you’ll learn how to structure each month to take advantage of crucial buying times.

This is it! My favourite season for art sales. Here’s why:

march

Plan: I hope you’ve been working hard in your studio to prepare for this season! Do you have an art fair coming up? If so, check out what I bring to an art fair.

Marketing: Add any new work to your website. If you use e-commerce, ensure your pricing is accurate across all sales channels.

Sales opportunities: Something happens to our communities on the first “warm” day of the year. This day is hard to predict, but you know it when it arrives: the first day when you can sit on a patio for a drink! This is a therapeutic day for everyone coming out of winter, and spirits are raised through the roof! This can put people in a buying mood. Wait for this day to launch a special release!

Avoid: Mid-March can be busy with families taking March break vacations. I’ve often avoided the 2 middle weeks if my main audience is families with children.

APRIL

Plan: Update your website with fresh artwork and maybe a new colour palette (or build a new website!). Plan for a ‘spring-clean’ of your instagram feed, removing any outliers or posts that are no longer relevant. Read up on the latest instagram features to take advantage of.

Marketing: Spend some time this month allowing your followers to get to know you. It’s VERY important to keep a professional look on your profile while also sharing your personality. If you don’t have professional images of YOU, what are you waiting for? This is who shoots my branding photos

Sales opportunities: Looking ahead to May, we focus on Mothers Day - opportunities exist to bring moms to in-person art events, sell art as gifts, or arrange commissions for your buyers’ loved ones.

Slow sales?: If you have any interest in adding a side hustle to your art career, I’m going to have some great ideas and opportunities coming up this month. Keep an eye on my emails for more info. (or Join below!)

MAY

Plan: If there was ever a time to push for sales, this is it. In my experience, May is one of the biggest sales months of the year. Don’t be shy about sending a mass email to your subscribers sharing new artwork.

Marketing: Make sure your website is ready, and full of available work for people to browse or ‘add to cart’. Plan to ‘WOW’ your customers with your packages using this advice.

Sales opportunities: Mother’s day is a great opportunity for sales. Add a gift card option for last-minute shoppers.

Avoid: Inadequate photography! I may sound like a broken record about the photos - but it’s very important to have high quality photos of your work. Here’s a post where I discuss more about photography.

bonus:

If you have any interest in adding a side hustle to your art career, I want you to keep a close eye on my emails, I have some ideas coming up for April! (or ask me about it early)
